Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Pedro Noguera

“Accessing Academic Excellence: What Colleges Can Do to Promote Student Success”

Dr. Pedro Noguera has been called one of America's most important voices for public education. He is a professor in the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University. An expert on school reform, diversity, and the achievement gap, Noguera is also a part-time high school teacher, a regular guest on CNN, and a dynamic speaker.

As a leading urban sociologist, Noguera examines how schools are influenced by social and economic conditions in the urban environment. What is the state of race relations, racial inequality? What is the role of diversity? What factors promote student achievement? Which detract from it?

Noguera is the author of several groundbreaking texts including his most recent The Trouble with Black Boys….And Other Reflections on Race, Equity, and the Future of Public Education (Wiley, 2008).
